Deer Valley Just Added Hail Peak Express and 200 Acres That Had Never Been Skied
Deer Valley’s Hail Peak Express opens 200 acres and seven new runs for 2026-27, pushing the Ikon mountain to 32 lifts and 4,500 skiable acres.

Deer Valley is continuing its East Village buildout this winter with Hail Peak Express, a new lift that opens access to never-before-skied runs on the resort’s easternmost edge. The package adds 200 skiable acres and seven new runs for 2026-27, bringing Deer Valley to 32 lifts and 4,500 skiable acres. Since December 2024 the mountain has more than doubled its skiable terrain, and it sits on the Ikon Pass.
Hail Peak Express carries skiers from Deer Valley East Village to the new terrain with 86 chairs, 2,400 people per hour, 1,130 feet of vertical rise, and 8,099 feet of haul rope. One of the seven debut runs, “Hill Yeah,” nods to Hill Air Force Base and the resort’s Salute to Service program.
Where Hail Peak fits in the expansion
- 200 new acres and seven runs on previously unskied eastern terrain.
- 32 total lifts and 4,500 skiable acres for 2026-27.
- More than doubled skiable terrain since December 2024.
- Hail Peak Express: 86 chairs, 2,400 pph, 1,130 ft vertical, 8,099 ft haul rope.
Deer Valley frames Hail Peak as the next chapter of Expanded Excellence after last winter’s historic East Village push. New chairlifts since December 2024 already include Keetley Express, HooDoo Express, Aurora, Galena Express, Pioche Express, Neptune Express, Vulcan Express, Revelator Express, Pinyon Express, Hail Peak Express, and the Deer Valley East Village Gondola.
Snowmaking muscle behind the new acres
Supporting the growth is a new 10-million-gallon snowmaking reservoir near Park Peak Lodge. Paired with the Summit Pump House, it can push 10,000 gallons per minute to east-side guns, with another 10,000 gpm from Ventana for 20,000 gpm across the east system. Deer Valley says 80 to 90 percent of snowmaking water returns to the Jordanelle Reservoir or Provo River. Snowmaking coverage rises to 932 acres with the Hail Peak work.
Family terrain is getting a lighter touch too: a snow-feature zone with rollers and berms is tentatively planned on Pirate King off Pioche Express, with more flowy rollers on Humbug and a family area on McHenry. Bigger lodges at East Village and Park Peak are still aimed at 2027-28. This winter’s story is Hail Peak itself.
Ikon holders watching Utah capacity should note the acreage jump, then dig into the Deer Valley resort page and the Ikon Pass page for access rules. Deer Valley’s media room has the full Expanded Excellence update for 26/27.
