Blue Mountain Resort in Ontario is heading into its 85th winter with an unglamorous but decisive upgrade: 11 miles of new snowmaking pipe, denser gun coverage on key trails, and automation updates meant to squeeze more snow out of short cold windows. The resort's own 2026-27 preview frames the work as the foundation for earlier, more even coverage once overnight temperatures finally cooperate.
Schuss gets the biggest single snowmaking push, with density doubling across two-thirds of the trail and upgraded on-hill communications to support faster automation when conditions flip. In the Valley, flood lines now service Apple Bowl and Calamity with more capacity higher on the slope. In the Orchard, crews doubled gun density on Butternut and installed close to 9,000 feet of new pipe around Butternut and Badlands Terrain Park.
Pipe, valves, and a safer Silver Bullet load
New valve huts sit beside the pipe miles, aimed at easier maintenance when snowmakers are racing a short window. Lift ops also installed a load-area safety system on the Silver Bullet Express that watches seating and safety-bar position and alerts operators before a chair reaches the first tower.
