Arapahoe Basin Opens Its Anniversary Winter, but the First Laps Have Limits

Arapahoe Basin opened October 28 on High Noon, an intermediate run. Its 80th winter also brings Wednesday ticket offers and a December birthday weekend.

Ski news: Arapahoe Basin Opens Its Anniversary Winter, but the First Laps Have Limits

Arapahoe Basin began its 80th season on Wednesday, October 28, with Black Mountain Express serving High Noon. The first available run is rated intermediate, making the opening a milestone for returning skiers rather than a signal that every ability level has terrain ready.

The resort scheduled the opening-day lift session from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Its official terrain display showed one open run and one open lift when checked Thursday morning. That compact footprint is the useful starting point for planning a visit: winter operations have begun, while the broader mountain still needs time and suitable conditions.

For families with different skiing abilities, the High Noon rating deserves more attention than the opening headline. A group that normally separates between learning terrain and harder runs should check what is available before heading up together. A first day back also leaves room to reacquaint yourself with boots and equipment without trying to turn a limited opening into a full mountain tour.

Access is broader for passholders this winter. The resort's opening guide lists unlimited skiing and riding on both the Ikon Pass and Ikon Base Pass. It also says lessons begin in November, another reason a late-October visit should be planned differently from a midwinter family lesson day.

The anniversary adds reasons to return after the first laps. A-Basin is advertising $80 Wednesday lift tickets throughout the winter and during its birthday festivities, with separate $50 early- and late-season pricing also listed. Those offers are worth checking against the date you actually want rather than treating $80 as a universal daily ticket price.

Guests who are 80 years old can ski free on Wednesdays and on December 5 and 6, according to the resort's anniversary program. The wider birthday weekend runs December 4 through 6, with a demo village planned for Saturday and Sunday and additional celebrations around the base.

That creates two different trips to consider: a near-term visit for the first available groomer, or a December return built around the birthday events. Neither requires assuming the entire terrain inventory is already open. Start with our Arapahoe Basin guide for the mountain's wider character, then match the day's operating report to the people coming with you.
