Stowe, Okemo and Mount Snow Pick a Date, With One Familiar Condition

Stowe, Okemo and Mount Snow target November 21 openings, weather permitting, giving Vermont trip planners a shared date to watch before Thanksgiving.

Ski news: Stowe, Okemo and Mount Snow Pick a Date, With One Familiar Condition

Stowe, Okemo and Mount Snow are targeting Saturday, November 21, to begin their 2026-27 ski seasons. Vail Resorts announced the shared Vermont date on October 26, with the essential qualification that opening remains dependent on weather and conditions.

The date gives Thanksgiving travelers a concrete planning marker. It is a target for starting operations, rather than a promise about a particular lift, trail or amount of terrain. Skiers choosing between the three mountains should wait for each resort's operating announcement before treating an opening weekend as a full-mountain experience.

The mountains arrive at that target with different winter stories. Stowe is marking 90 years of skiing and riding, while Okemo's preseason work centers on a major snowmaking investment. A common calendar date does not mean the mountains will have identical conditions or expand terrain at the same pace.

What the snowmaking investment changes

Okemo's previously announced upgrade replaces 15 diesel compressors with two electric units and includes more than 700 new or upgraded snow guns. The operator says the work should improve snow production during marginal weather and help crews recover after warm spells or rain. Those are expected operational benefits, with actual performance still dependent on conditions.

For a skier, the relevant outcome is the terrain crews can prepare during the cold windows they receive. The equipment announcement supplies context for Okemo's winter preparations; it does not turn November 21 into a guaranteed opening or establish which runs will be ready that morning.

Ski Vermont's opening-date roundup, updated October 26, also lists November 21 for all three resorts. Its statewide calendar includes Sugarbush on the same target date, followed by Stratton on November 25 and Bromley on November 27. The association cautions that every opening date is tentative and advises checking again before traveling.

That spread leaves room to compare destinations for the holiday period, but there is little value in choosing solely by the first date on the calendar. Check available terrain, lesson operations and the most recent resort update as your departure approaches.
