Lake Louise Is Expanding Richardson’s Ridge, but Access Gets a Crucial Change
Lake Louise plans a new Larch connection, glading and snowmaking at Richardson’s Ridge for 2026-27, giving returning skiers a different route to explore.
Lake Louise outlined its 2026-27 mountain improvements on October 15, including a new connecting run from the Larch area to the base of the Richardson’s Ridge Chair. The Alberta resort is pairing that access change with new glading and snowmaking around Richardson’s Ridge, making the journey into the terrain part of this winter’s upgrade.
In its official winter update, the resort also describes a Pikaboo connector enhancement intended to ease traffic on lower Pika, where Richardson’s Ridge runs meet the existing network. Top of the World Chair is getting increased loading capacity and system upgrades, with reliability and reduced energy use among the stated goals.
Why the connections deserve attention
For returning visitors, the useful question is how the new routes change a day of skiing. A connection into a lift base can matter as much as an additional run: it can change the sequence of lifts and descents a group chooses, particularly when people want to explore one area without retracing the same approach.
That is a planning implication, rather than a promise of shorter queues. The announcement does not provide a measured reduction in travel time or waiting time. Skiers should judge the changes against their own preferred terrain and the areas actually operating when they arrive.
The new snowmaking is intended to support early coverage and consistency at Richardson’s Ridge. Lake Louise lists November 6, 2026, through May 2, 2027, as its planned season, subject to conditions. Those dates are resort operating targets, rather than a guarantee that every improvement or terrain area will be available on the first day.
What to check before booking
If Richardson’s Ridge is the reason for a trip, look for a specific operating update for that area before committing to an early visit. A resort opening announcement and confirmation of access to a particular chair answer different questions. That distinction is especially useful for groups choosing dates around one part of the mountain.
