Alta Changes Its Parking Rules, and Forgetting One Step Could Cost You
Alta caps active parking reservations at four and adds a $100 fee after a first no-show warning, making timely cancellations part of winter trip planning.

Alta Ski Area is tightening parking rules for winter 2026-27, with a $100 charge for each missed reservation after an initial warning. The Utah resort is also limiting each account to four active reservations, including both free and paid bookings, so canceling an unwanted space now matters for your budget as well as the next skier.
The changes address a familiar problem with booking ahead: a space can be spoken for even when its driver never arrives. For a visiting family, the practical response is to put the parking cancellation deadline alongside flight and lodging reminders, rather than treating it as an optional housekeeping task.
The cancellation time to remember
Alta says reservations should be canceled before 8 a.m. on the booked day. It will send an SMS reminder 24 hours ahead. Available same-day reservations do not count toward the four-booking limit, giving skiers another way to arrange a visit without holding an extra advance slot.
That distinction matters for anyone staying in the Salt Lake Valley and choosing ski days as the weather develops. Reserve the dates you intend to use, then review them when your plans become firmer. A reminder arriving the day before is a useful prompt to check that everyone in the car still wants to go.
Book the space and check the plate
The official booking portal says reservations are now open. Beginning December 11, the regular reservation window covers Fridays through Sundays and holiday periods from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The portal also explains a useful rental-car detail: enter RENTAL when booking, then replace it with the actual license plate after collecting the vehicle.
For travelers flying into Utah, that means parking can be arranged before a rental company assigns a car. Put the plate update on the arrival checklist so the reservation matches the vehicle that reaches the lot. Changing cars during a trip is another reason to revisit the account.
